Cosmic sounds
Producer and DJ Lilly Palmer has collaborated with ESA to bring her passion for space and music together with a new track and some stellar festival performances to look forward to.
A chance conversation at an airport with someone who worked at ESA sparked a link-up between ESA and the German DJ and producer Lilly Palmer, who is a rising star on the global techno scene.
The first fruit of this collaboration was a DJ set livestreamed by Lilly from the Hertz chamber at ESA’s testing facility ESTEC in the Netherlands. Hertz is usually used to test satellites and spacecraft, so it provided a striking technological backdrop for Lilly Palmer’s futuristic style of techno.
Having long been fascinated by space exploration, Lilly was also excited to discover the ESA sound archive. She has used a variety of space-tech sounds from this, including samples from ESA’s Mars rover, to add another dimension to her trademark techno, especially in her new track You Are My Guide, which was released on 14 July 2023. Lilly was very happy to be able to bring together her twin passions of music and space in this way and commented: “This combination of science and entertainment really fascinates me. I think it’s great that ESA supports me in this!’’
Lilly is now looking forward to playing You Are My Guide on the main stage at the Tomorrowland festival in Belgium on 22 July 2023. Tomorrowland is a massive electronic dance music festival, where Lilly will be bringing a little bit of ESA’s space story centre stage with her as well as sharing the experience with her many fans on social media.
Following this, Lilly will also be bringing her space-inspired sounds to hundreds of thousands of fans at the world’s biggest techno party, the Street Parade in Zurich on 12 August 2023.
