Planet Happiness, a new exhibition about the wonders of space, just opened its doors on 26 March  at Plein Publiek in Brussels.  Taking place during Belgium’s presidency of the European Council, and supported by Belgium’s State Secretary for Science Thomas Dermine and the Belgian Science Policy Office (Belspo), the exhibition promises an immersive experience that combines scientific knowledge, creativity, and the latest in interactive digital technology.

Thanks to a collaboration between the Belgian Science Policy Office (Belspo), the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (Eumetsat), Planet Happiness is designed to inspire and engage visitors about space, while sharing knowledge about Belgian and European space endeavours.

The exhibition is curated by the contemporary Dutch artist Irma de Vries and offers a mix of science, art and cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and immersive 360° projections. Through an eye-catching experience, the artist aims to show how each person is connected to the universe, inviting visitors to unleash the inner astronaut in each of us.

Visitors will delve into Belgium’s main successes in space as well as some of Europe’s most important achievements, ranging from the Rosetta mission around Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko to the Huygens probe that landed the farthest ever in the Solar System, on Titan, in 2005. The exhibition also highlights Europe’s contribution to the International Space Station endeavour with its Cupola and Columbus modules, as well as in the exploration of Mars.
