A new long-term exhibition “Zero Gravity, Gravedad Cero” is now open at the Museo de Las Ciencias Principe Felipe, Valencia, Spain.

This special exhibition, part of the museum’s 10th anniversary celebrations, presents European space activities and programmes in a dedicated area entitled “Exploring the Universe, Space for Earth”, marking a new step in the long collaboration between ESA and science museums throughout Europe.

This part of the exhibition shows unusual and spectacular images from space giving a glimpse of ongoing and future ESA missions in the field of Earth observation and meteorology; satellite communications and satellite navigation systems; launchers, human spaceflight and space laboratories; exploration of the solar system and deep space.

One of the main attractions of the exhibition is the Zero Gravity projection room. “Once inside”, comments Fernando Doblas, Head of ESA Communication Department, “visitors will get the impression of floating in space. Outstanding images from ESA will take them on a journey to explore space and, from this new perspective, to discover the Earth, our spacecraft navigating in the Universe. They will admire the beauty and fragility of our planet, bringing reinforced awareness that we need to preserve it for future generations”.

A special feature of the exhibition is the wealth of data from the Hubble Space Telescope after 20 years in orbit, showing the most impressive images of stars, planets, galaxies and of the Universe.

Visitors can also see the qualification model of the European Faint Object Camera, FOC, which flew onboard Hubble for 4340 days, as well as part of the original solar panels of Hubble that were brought back to Earth after their challenging sojourn in the extreme environment of space.
