Objectives
The e-technology lab, part of the ESA Education Programme addressing primary and secondary school levels, has been created to support teachers in the running of their technology, ICT and science school curricula. The overall grand objective is to enhance pupils’ STEM literacy and competences, and eventually attract them to further STEM studies and careers.

Robotics, space technology and programming tools, presented through an inquiry-based methodology, are used to facilitate pupils’ development of STEM subject knowledge, skills and competences, and core values such as collaboration. Real-life examples, related to the inspiring world of space, are used to bridge the gap between theory and the real practice of science.

Offer
The e-technology lab offers training to primary and secondary school teachers of ESA Member States, plus Canada, Latvia, Slovenia and Lithuania regularly throughout the year. During the workshops, primary and secondary school teachers, in separated workshops, will learn how to use technology tools effectively in the classroom and inspire their students in the STEM field.

Facilities
The e-technology lab is a purpose-built teacher training laboratory located at the ESA ESEC-Galaxia Education Training Centre, in Transinne, Belgium. Designed with teacher training in mind, it provides the perfect platform for the delivery of ESA technology and robotics teacher workshops. A replica Martian terrain is the beating heart of the e-technology lab, which is used to carry out STEM investigations in the context of real ESA space missions. The lab is also equipped with a range of technological tools that can be used in the classroom to enhance the teaching of STEM, including Arduinos, Raspberry Pis, LEGO robotics and iPads.
