What information to submit for others to use?
As soon as the transit is complete we ask that observers submit the longitude and latitude of their location, along with the contact times you recorded (including your time zone). Ideally, four contact times can be made.
- First contact – as the disc of Mercury touches the Sun from the outside as it enters transit.
- Second contact – as the disc of Mercury touches the Sun from the inside as it enters transit.
- Third contact – as the disc of Mercury touches the Sun from the inside as it exits transit.
- Fourth contact – as the disc of Mercury touches the Sun from the outside as it exits transit.
