N° 20–2000: AP2000 Millennium Conference on Antennas & Propagation : Davos - Switzerland 9-14 April 2000

The AP2000 Millennium Conference on Antennas and Propagation is an exceptional reunion of worldwide resonance organised in Davos by the European Space Agency, ESA, in cooperation with EUREL (Convention of National Societies of Electrical Engineers of Europe) and with the EU COST Framework (Coopération Scientifique et Technique).
Antennas and radio-wave propagation involve key technologies for space communications, navigation and remote sensing, for all terrestrial wireless transmission systems, for radar, and for a number of other applications ranging from mine detection to biological wave interactions and medical electromagnetics. "With the explosion of wireless multimedia communications and of new terrestrial and space applications of microwave sensors, antennas and propagation have a bright future", says Dr. Antoine Roederer, Chairman of the Conference.
At the Millennium Conference on Antennas & Propagation, the best experts from all over the world will present their results in 65 specialised oral and poster sessions. Several short courses will also be offered to delegates by eminent scientists. Equipment, software and books will be displayed by industry in some 20 exhibitions.
Over 1000 delegates have registered to date, and, in total, 1200 to 1500 participants are expected, which makes AP2000 the largest conference ever organised in this field in Europe.
AP2000 is a non-profit event sponsored by ESA, by the EU COST Framework and by major space, electronics and telecommunication companies and institutions in Europe. This allows to financially support over 100 scientists from less privileged countries as well as students to come and present their work in Davos.
The conference joins exceptionally the two major Symposia ICAP (International Conference on Antennas and Propagation), organised by IEE (UK), and JINA (Journées Internationales de Nice sur les Antennes), organised by CNET and SEE (F). Close links have been established with the American and Japanese Societies, IEEE-APS and IEICE-CS respectively, and with URSI (Union Radio-Scientifique Internationale) which will have strong delegations at the conference. The Swiss Electrical Association SEV/ASE and the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne EPFL are closely associated to the local organisation AP2000 will take place from 9 to 14 April 2000, at the Congress Centre of Davos.
