N° 19–2021: Call for media: ESA to share initial figures from astronaut selection
17 June 2021
Media are invited to a virtual press event on Wednesday, 23 June 2021, to learn more about applications to ESA’s astronaut selection. Vacancies for the positions of astronaut and astronaut (with a physical disability) will close on 18 June 2021, after a two-and-a-half-month-long application period.
Though figures are not yet final, initial numbers provide an insight into the total number and spread of applications across all ESA Member and Associate Member states.
The next stage in ESA’s selection process will be screening, where applications are assessed on the basis of all documents submitted, the application form and the screening questionnaire completed as part of the application process.
Screening rounds will determine the exact number of complete and valid applications submitted and mark the start of a one-and-a-half-year process to select ESA’s next astronaut class and reserve.
