N° 22–2023: Media invitation: Space2Connect conference to empower connectivity for our society

19 May 2023

Media are invited to join ESA Space2Connect Conference in Matera on 7-9 June 2023.

Organised jointly with the Italian space agency ASI, this exciting event offers the opportunity to hear first-hand about the latest scientific findings on telecommunications, connectivity and how emerging technologies will revolutionise space sector – all of which benefit society and the economy at large.

This edition of ESA Space2Connect Conference 2023 is aimed at the entire satellite telecommunications value chain, covering both the commercial and institutional parts, to explore innovative space solutions to empower connectivity for our society.

Space2Connect Conference is an in-person event offering a long-awaited chance to connect with and interview the most eminent scientists, industry champions and representatives from international organisations, industries and institutions.

Programme

DAY 1 - Wednesday 7 June - The Satcom Ambition

The first day of the conference will focus on using space to benefit citizens by exploring how Satcom can aid institutions and the commercial sector in providing essential services such as healthcare and education in rural areas. Moreover, the ambition of space is to continue to nourish human aspiration and call for joint efforts to enable connectivity to and for the Moon (and beyond). This will create job opportunities and prosperity on Earth, while inspiring young people to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, creating a highly qualified workforce for the future.

On Wednesday morning, journalists will also have the chance to visit ASI space centre in Matera.

DAY 2 - Thursday 8 June - The Satcom Enablers and Values

On the second day of the conference, we will explore the key enablers that are necessary to ensure that new space-based solutions are made available to society in a timely manner. This will include discussions on emerging satellite communication systems, the role of Satcom in digital transformation, and the importance of technological innovation as the backbone of the sector. In the afternoon, we will focus on the values, such as sustainability and responsibility, that the Satcom sector should embrace in order to provide new connectivity solutions to society.

DAY 3 - Friday 9 June - The Satcom Innovation

Since it is also important to address the emerging connectivity needs driven by the new habits of end users such as gaming, metaverse, digital culture, art and tourism, the third day will be dedicated to showcase and inspire NewSpace with new applications and new business models.
