ESA is seeking ideas for innovative future navigation concepts and products from European industry and academia – join us at the ESA pavilion at the Paris Air & Space Show on 19–20 June to talk with the team overseeing the new programme seeking to drive Europe’s state-of-the-art in finding one’s way.
ESA’s Directorate of the Galileo Programme and Navigation-related Activities has put together the Navigation Innovation and Support Programme (NAVISP), which will apply ESA’s hard-won expertise from Galileo and EGNOS to new satellite navigation and, more widely, positioning, navigation and timing challenges.
The aim is to boost the industrial competitiveness and innovation of participating Member States across the entire navigation sector, from ‘upstream’ space systems to ‘downstream’ mass-market user products and services, including the fusion of satellite navigation with various groundbreaking technologies and complementary positioning techniques.
The programme’s current activities are open to companies both large and small, from full-scale satellite manufacturers to small-medium enterprises or start-ups, as well as universities and research centres.
In some cases, such as in Element 2 of the programme, activities can be proposed by industry for the development of commercial products covering either the space or ground segments as well as the wider ‘positioning, navigation and timing’ user segment.
ESA co-funding will be available for up to 50% of total project cost, rising to 80% for small and medium enterprises and 100% for research involving universities and research centres.
