Data products
The Aeolus satellite downlinked its scientific data to the ground station in Svalbard, Norway. The data were then sent to Tromsø for processing to Level-1 and Level-2. From Tromsø, the data were sent for further processing to the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts in Reading, UK, and to ESA’s centre of Earth observation, ESRIN, in Frascati, Italy.
Level-0 data are raw data as measured by the Aeolus satellite
Level-1 data are time-series of preliminary science data along the satellite’s orbit where basic calibration has been applied
Level-2A data are time-series of aerosol and cloud layer information along the satellite’s orbit
Level-2B data are time-series of fully processed profiles of wind along the satellite orbit, which were used for weather forecasting at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts
Level-2C data are time series of 3D wind vector profiles along the satellite track, which were produced by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts model after ingestion of Aeolus Level-2B data
