The best satnav application and the overall Galileo Masters 2012
winner of the ninth European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC)
is an innovative project aiming to offer seamless, reliable navigation
even indoors by means of ultra-low-frequency magnetic field
communication. The project’s method earns its ‘seamless’ label by
automatically switching the source of its positioning data between
GNSS and indoor navigation. Dirk Elias from Fraunhofer Portugal
received the title of Galileo Master 2012 on behalf of Fraunhofer
Portugal and the University of Porto’s Faculty of Engineering (FEUP)
taking home the €20 000 grand prize. At the award ceremony 25 October
2012 from left: Thorsten Rudolph (Managing Director of Application
Center for Satellite Navigation Oberpfaffenhofen(AZO) and the
instigator of ESNC), Carlo des Dorides (Executive Director, European
GNSS Agency), Dirk Elias (Fraunhofer Portugal and Galileo Master 2012
winner) and Ulrike Daniels (Business Development at AZO).
